International Conference in Prague to 600th anniversary of the martyr´s death of Master Jan Hus

The Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren has declared 2015 the Year of Master Jan Hus, the 600th anniversary of the martyr’s death of Master Jan Hus at the Council of Constance. In that connection, an international theological conference was held in Prague on 9–12 April 2015, organised by the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and the Protestant Theological Faculty of Charles University in cooperation with the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. General Bishop Miloš Klátik was attended at this conference and three others pastors from ECAC in Slovakia.

On the conference sounded lectures Czech and foreign experts from the disciplines of theology and history. The lectures reminded life and work of Jan Hus and his message, which is actual for today, mainly by the appeal „persevere in struggles“ about the value of love, justice, truth, which finally will win although is silent in while. Hus was presented not only as a reformator of the church but also as a reformator of the whole society in that time.

Friday afternoon was dedicated contributions on the theme – Roles of the Jan Hus in Reformation´s interpretation in different countries. Spoke participants from Italy, Germany, France, Switzerland, USA and also from South Korea. General Bishop Miloš Klátik had a lecture – Ján Hus and the Reformation in Slovakia. Part of the conference was a concert of biblical songs by Antonín Dvořák and extract from Oratorio Ján Hus by Carl Loewe.

On Saturday after morning contributions and discussion on the theme Reformation and Secularization was prepared for participants excursion in afternoon – Prague in the Footsteps of Jan Hus – visited the places directly connected to Jan Hus.

The Conference was closed by the Sunday services, which was held on multiple places in Prague. General Bishop Miloš Klátik served a sermon in church of Evangelical Czech Brethren Church U Klimenta. His sermon was the text of Matthew 10, 32-33. „Master Ján Hus is a role model for us as a confessor and Lord witness, who better died than to betrayed Jesus Christ“. Some of participants on Sunday after services visited the town – Tábor or took a view in Hussite museum.

All of us have to pray to our God, so we can be faithful message of Jan Hus and we never forget on the word of our Lord, Jesus Christ: „If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples; and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” John 8:31-32.
