The Statement of the ECAC in Slovakia to the Persecution of Christians in the World

On 5 August 2013 the Board of ECAC in Slovakia adopted a proclamation to the present situation in Syria and Egypt as well as in other countries which affects the lives of all people including Christians.
The ECAC in Slovakia joins to the letter sent from the 14th CEC Assembly in Budapest in July 2013 as well as to the appeal of the Council of the Lutheran World Federation for an end to the violence and human right violations in Syria from July 2013.
The ECAC in Slovakia is deeply concerned by this reports about the persecution of Christians in Syria, Egypt and in other countries which we recieved from the media. According to the facts from the Lutheran World Federation governing body an estimated 93,000 people have died in the fighting in the past two years, including more than 1,300 children under the age of 10. In addition more than 1.5 million refugees have fled the country and 4.5 million people have been displaced internally.
These reports make us worried about the future of Christians in Syria, Egypt as well as in other countries in Asia and Africa. The Christians are being kidnapped, murdered or forced to flee their country. We forcefully require the United Nations Organisation to deal with keeping the human rights in the field of freedom of religion as they are laid down in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the United Nations Charter. We also require the United Nations Organization to urge the governing bodies of this countries to keep the freedom of religion and to provide people with protection without view of their confession.
We turn to the members of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession as well as to all Christians in Slovakia for prayers to our Lord that he does not allow further innocent victims. Let’s pray to God that all people live according to Gospel and God’s command of love: „A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.“(John 13, 34-35)
