The celebration of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Constantin and Methodius to the area of Great Moravia

On 5 – 6 July, 2013 the celebration of the 1150th anniversary of the arrival of Constantin and Methodius to the area of Great Moravia took place at the castle Branč and at the Evangelical Church in Brezová pod Bradlom.
The main organizer of this celebration was the Evangelical Church of Augsburg Confession in Slovakia with the cooperation of the Czech Evangelical churches, under the sponsorship of Ivan Gašparovič, the President of Slovak Republic.
This celebration is held at the castle Branč annually. At this celebration we also remind the hardship of Lutheran martyrs arrested in this castle and the burning of John Hus. Therefore we can also consider this celebration as a celebration of Czechoslovakian and ecumenical relations.
The main part of the celebration was opened by a ceremonial evangelical worship service under the ruins of the castle Branč on Friday. More than 2000 Christians from Slovakia and Czech Republic and many representatives of the government body participated in this worship service. General Bishop Miloš Klátik was preaching. In his sermon he appreciated the significance of this two brothers from Solun for the building of our national culture.
In the afternoon the celebration continued at the Evangelical Church in Brezová pod Bradlom where the participants could listen to the spiritual word and music. A reminiscent worship by the monument to John Hus concluded the celebration.
